By Meghan Valade Pieces for games like Monopoly, Sorry, and Chess are the easiest things to lose, but not for the Foley Freeze. The team has one game piece that’s 10-feet-tall! The fabrication subteam have been working since kickoff to create game pieces to simulate this years Infinite Recharge game. This allows our drive team to improve performance leading up to our first competition by practicing with actual size game pieces. The control panel, power port, and generator switch are all key elements of Infinite Recharge, this year’s FIRST game. The control panel is a colored wheel that has to spinned by teams to earn points. The power port is a tower where the robots have to try and shoot yellow balls, called power cells, into one of three scoring holes. There is also a hanging bar, called a generator switch, which robots have to try and hang from and balance to score points. Understanding and perfecting the use of these game pieces is essential in maximizing the team performance and points. This year’s game pieces took 2 weeks to build using the expertise of several team members and mentors. All of the game pieces were true to size, even the 10-foot power port! “The hardest game piece to recreate was easily the power port because of its size,” said Cameron Lawton, the Fabrication assistant lead.
