By Sarah Schuller Lights, camera, robots? A camera team from RoboZone, a social media group that covers FIRST Robotics, followed the team as they worked on designing, programming, and prototyping earlier this month. It was the first time the show came to visit Bishop Foley Catholic High School. The video shows clips of the build room, students working on parts and various interviews of team members. They interviewed Kevin Swift, the teams assistant coach, Claire Kaptur of prototype, Sabrina Causely of prototype, and Ethan Hana of the design subteam. “I actually really like the game this year because I’ve always liked shooting games like Steamworks,” said Sabrina Causley, the assistant lead for the prototype team. Steamworks was the 2017 game which involved shooting wiffle balls into a boiler smokestack. The year’s game, called Infinite Recharge, is sponsored by Star Wars and requires teams to complete tasks and work together to save FIRST City from incoming asteroids. Teams must score foam balls, called power cells and spin a colored wheel called the control panel and activate a protective shield. RoboZone, which also did a show about the Foley Freeze last year, says State Champs! RoboZone is the only TV Show of its kind in the country covering competitive middle school, high school and collegiate robotics. The show this year also aired features on the ThunderChickens, team 217 from Sterling Heights, and the RoboStangs, Team 548 from Northville. They asked about what team members thought about the 2020 game and what they thought would be challenging. “Last year’s game was a lot more simple in the idea of what we had to do.” said Claire Kaptur.
