By Anne Schaller The Foley Freeze isn’t all about making robots. Our most recent entry in our community service ambitions, we set our sights on feeding the hungry in our community. In honor of Catholic School week the team partnered with Bishop Foley Catholic High School Student Council to collect canned food for Gleaners Food Bank. The can drive, which ran from January 27th to the 31st, collected 770 cans of food. The Junior class collected the most with 253 cans donated. Gleaners is an organization that provides households with access to sufficient, nutritious food, and related resources. Gleaners have 528 partner soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, and other agencies throughout southeast Michigan. Gleaners mainly use donations to provide 96,000 meals per day for those who are in need. For each two cans a student donated, they received a raffle entry for a chance to win gift cards and prizes. Also the donations counted toward Spirit Points; the grade that donated the most cans could have a chance to get the day of Prom off school.
